How to Take Your Business Seriously
Whatever your online business is, you simply MUST take it seriously if you’re to be successful, you must treat it as a business, NOT a hobby, have a plan, know what you need to do and how much you need to make. You must also reinvest as much as you possibly can, especially in the beginning.
To help you, I have compiled a list of my 13 top tips (in no particular order) and suggestions that I have used to achieve success online, and I know that if you follow these tips and strategies and put them into consistent action, you should be able to build yourself a great online business and achieve the lifestyle that goes with that.
So here goes……………………..
1.Find a good Mentor.
For me this will always be the number one priority when starting any business. Find somebody who is achieving the level of success you aspire to in your chosen field, and become a student of theirs. I have many mentors now for different areas of my life and business and I can’t recommend this tip more highly.
2.Find Your Niche.
You MUST have a product or service to sell, and a website or landing page to sell it on. This applies even if you are selling somebody else’s product as an affiliate. This is where it all starts. It’s simply madness to be out there trying every “get rich quick scheme” you come across. Pick something you have some knowledge of, a niche in which you can see yourself becoming an expert in, and stay focused on it!
3.Know the level of Income you need to survive.
You may have the entrepreneurial spirit, but you may also have a family to support, and as there’s a risk in starting your own business, it’s a good idea to know how much money you need to pay your bills every month.

4.Use Clickbank or Paypal.
These days people are much more willing to do business online, so if you plan to sell your own product, you will need to have a method in place to be able to process credit card payments. Clickbank and Paypal are two of the best options, but be sure to set up the accounts in your company name.
5.Set Your Budget.
One of the best traits a successful business person can have is the ability to set a budget and stick to it. You must consider all of your business costs from advertising to website hosting. You must keep track of these costs daily, and you can do this by using a simple spreadsheet, I use excel for this purpose but there are many software programs out there you can use for this purpose, just make sure you use one you’re familiar with.
6.Reinvest in Your Business.
When you make your first profits, it’s really tempting to go out and spend it on the latest gadget, or car, but to be a truly successful business owner you must reinvest as much as you can back into the business, so that you can build a strong sustainable business that will provide you and your family with the lifestyle you are looking for, for many years to come.
7.Take Your Time.
It’s important that you don’t rush into things. Take the time to do it right, it’s worth it in the long run, and delaying things for a couple of weeks may well be worth it. Incorporate your business, this will protect you and your personal assets from any lawsuits and it makes it easier to sell your business further down the road. Keep your business expenses separate from your personal expenses.
8.Make a Daily Action List.
Working for yourself requires discipline and dedication so you need to be organized and prioritize your activities on a daily basis, so make a daily action list and number your actions in order of priority. Focus on each action one at a time. Think only of the action or task in hand, never worry about the next action or the previous one, focus ONLY on the immediate task/action. Anything on you’re daily action list which can’t be completed that day, move into the next day.
9.Build Your Skills.
You may be able to outsource the building of your website and the initial set-up of your internet marketing but there are skills which you will need to help you succeed on line so you should make it a priority to continuously educate yourself to ensure you are always moving in the right direction.
The best way to do this of course is to follow the advice and example of your mentor. The late great Jim Rohn once said “ Formal education will make you a living, but self-education will make you a fortune” Commit to continuous investment in yourself, you will get the greatest ROI.
10.Don’t Depend on One Traffic Source.
Diversify your marketing activities. Become knowledgeable in numerous traffic generation strategies. There are many training programs available teaching the different strategies from Social Media to Pay per click.
It is vital that you utilize a number of these strategies to avoid having all of your eggs in one basket. But a word of warning, get good at one strategy before moving on to the next. I have seen many online ventures fail because they were spread too thin in trying to make all the different strategies work at once instead of becoming good at one first.
11.Put Money in The Bank.
Although it’s possible to start your online adventure with a very small amount of money, I always advise my clients to make sure they have some sort of buffer in the bank, which they can fall back on in times of necessity. Business cycles can and do fluctuate, so always make sure you have at least 6 months worth of savings to support your business, especially in the early days.
12.Read About Other Peoples Successes.
Knowing about other successful entrepreneurs can help to keep you motivated, so read and learn about the successful men and women you admire. Don’t be afraid to learn from their mistakes and duplicate their success formulas.
When you first start out on your own, many of your family and friends will give you a hard time. Knowing there are others going through the exact same process as you can help you remain in a positive frame of mind, so it’s a good idea to build friendships and relationships with other online entrepreneurs.
So join online forums, go to offline networking events, anything to make sure you’re mixing with the right sort of people. You need to surround yourself with people who are going to continuously encourage you in your ventures.
