How to Make Money By Building a List:

One of the best decisions I have ever made online was to decide to build a mailing list.

As a result of that decision, I now have tens of thousands of subscribers I can reach instantly, via e-mail, at a touch of the “send” button.

By the way, don’t let the “Gooroos” tell you that listbuilding is hard, it is incredibly easy, ONCE you know what you are doing.

All you need is to give away something of value to the marketplace you are in, a video, a PDF report, an ebook, in exchange for someone’s name and email.

You then proceed to build your list by driving traffic to this FREE info you are giving away on your optin page. (I will explain more about optin pages later)

You can start your listbuilding adventure by doing 4 simple things:

1).Choose your niche.

2).Create your FREE offer.

3).Get your autoresponder account (I recommend Aweber) however, there are a number of professional services out there, so my advice is to choose the one you like.

4).Drive traffic to your page.

So, now you know what the 4 steps are, lets examine each step a little more closely.

1).Choosing your niche:

My advice is to utilise the skills and knowledge you already have by going into a niche which you may have some knowledge of already, or, choose a niche which you have some affinity with. An example of this could be the weightloss niche, if you have had an experience of losing weight yourself, or the golfing niche if you are a player yourself. (you get the picture)

2).Create your Freebie:

This can be a FREE Report (PDF), A Free ebook, Video etc. Remember your freebie MUST have a perceived value and be directly connected to your niche.

3).Set-up your Aweber auto-responder and begin the first of your follow up email series.

This is arguably the most important part of your sales process. The majority of your Sales WILL undoubtably come from your follow-up.

4).Driving Traffic:

There are many different ways to drive traffic to your offer, some are FREE and some are not. The general rule of thumb is this: If you need quality targeted traffic quickly,
then paid advertising is best. But for best, consistent long term traffic free advertising seems to work for most. But it usually depends on your marketing budget.

Some of the most popular and reliable methods for driving traffic to your optin page include:

Social media (Twitter, Facebook etc)YouTube, Fiverr,Clickbank, PPC,CPA,PPV,Solo ads.

Again the choice seems to be unending and can be overwhelming. The best marketing strategy that 99% of successful Internet Marketers use is to focus on one method, get good at it, then move onto the next.

    Great post, Jon! My only regret about mailing lists is that I had wished that I’d started using one sooner. It’s amazing how effective they still are. How do you recommend finding the balance between sending out too many emails, and not sending out enough? Thanks!

      Hey Troy, great question,

      I really don’t think there is a definitive answer to this, as I know many marketers who send out to there list as many as 3 or 4 times per day, equally I also know many successful marketers who only send emails to their list 2 or 3 times per week. Personally I like to send at least 1 per day , however it tends to be based on my list responsiveness. At the end of the day, you are in business to make money, and the only way you make money from your list is by providing value and selling stuff. What works for me personally is trial and error, by sending out regular emails to my list, I can soon found out what works the best and produces the results I need in my business. If that means ***sing a few people off which results in them unsubscribing from my list, then I probably did not want them on my list in the first place. So my advice firstly, is to build your list with targeted subscribers initially, which will mean you can build a relationship faster by providing valuable information, which in turn generates anticipation with your subscribers which produces a greater open rate to your emails which of course turns into more sales for you as you continue to communicate with your list.
